The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to convene student leaders from the different colleges in the city today at the Cecilles Catering and Pension House in Tumaga.

The 3-day youth congress aims to orient the youth on the various poverty-reduction programs implemented by DSWD.     It also aims to encourage participation at their end in helping the government address poverty issues through advocacy in their communities and schools by organizing these young leaders to advocate these programs to the young generation.     The KALAHI-CIDSS, Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program and Sustainable Livelihood Program are the three core poverty-reduction programs of the DSWD which are implemented in the region targeting the poorest households.

With this activity, a Youth Movement Against Poverty (YMAP) is expected to be organized which shall serve as the link of the DSWD in local colleges and universities for social welfare initiatives and advocacies. — NZB
