The Zamboanga City Fire District of the Bureau of Fire Protection (ZCFD-BFP) emerged as the overall champion in the recently conducted Simulated Disaster Search and Rescue Drill competition held at Police Regional Office 9, Camp Abendan, Mercedes, this city.

ZCFD-BFP District Fire Marshal, Supt. Dominador F. Zabala, Jr.said yesterday that the emergency response competition sponsored by the Police Regional Office-9 led by Chief Supt. Juanito Vaño was also participated by 12 emergency response teams in this city, including the Phil. Navy, Phil. Air Force 3rd ABW and the different response groups or units of the PNP .

He said that during the rescue competition, seven various events were actively performed by each team.

Supt Zabala added that the personnel who participated in the rescue and emergency response drills were all assigned with the ZCFD Emergency Medical and Rescue Service (EMRS)/ Special Rescue Unit (SRU) and were rigorously trained by their Fire National Training Institute in emergency response operations in cases of disasters or calamities and other emergency response operations.

“We are happy that our (ZCFD) EMRS Team was proclaimed as the overall champion in the said emergency response and rescue  drills competition and they have really proven their capabilities in emergency actions to be undertaken in cases of emergency calls in our area of responsibility,” Zabala said.
