A security guard was taken in for investigation after he accidentally fired his 12-gauge shotgun while on duty at Jazmin Jewelry Pawnshop along Jaldon St. last Wednesday afternoon.

Police identified the security guard as Joy Mark Santillan y Alicamay, 22.

Initial investigation disclosed that Santillan had just reported for duty around 1 p.m. and after receiving the shotgun from the outgoing guard, he accidentally squeezed the trigger. The shotgun went off, shattering glass wall with the pellets.

The incident was responded by men of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company led by Supt. William Gadayan who reported it to the Sr. Insp. Arlan Delumpines for investigation. Coincidentally, Delumpines and his men were passing the area after their follow-up operation in Canelar. They took Santillan to the central police office for investigation.

Confiscated from Santillan’s possession were the shotgun loaded with three rounds of ammunition and a spent shell in the chamber.

Santillan was detained at the central police station pending the filing of charges in court. – Dan Toribio Jr.
