At least 10 families, who were affected by flashflood and landslide, received cash assistance in line with the City Government’s continuous delivery of social services.

Acting on behalf of Mayor Beng Climaco, City Hall Chief Executive Assistant Michael Saavedra personally handed over the cash assistance to the victims with the assistance of the barangay officials concerned during distribution rites held at City Hall yesterday morning.

Saavedra was assisted by personnel from the City Social Welfare and Development Office and City Treasurer’s Office.

Strong winds, land slide and flashflood, spawned by incessant rains hit the barangay of Upper Calarian last July 20, leaving one family heavily affected. The family received P5,000 assistance.

On August 3 and 4, similar incidents occurred in barangays Patalon, Labuan and Limpapa, all in the west coast, with 9 families severely affected.

Of the number, 6 families, whose houses were totally damaged by flood and landslide, received P5,000 each, while 4 families with partially damaged houses received P3,000 each. The total cash assistance reached P42,000.

It has been the policy of the city government since the previous administrations to give out cash assistance to victims of natural calamity and disaster.— Vic Larato
