With the forthcoming Fiesta Hermosa celebration, Mayor Beng Climaco has issued an executive order organizing the Zamboanga Hermosa committee to work on the preparation, planning and budgeting for the city’s 2013 grandest festival in October.

Executive Order BC-06-2013, issued Friday, August 30, amends a previous EO issued in 2012 and names different offices and personalities who shall take the lead in the preparations for the weeklong festival that will culminate on October 12, the feast day of Nuestra Senora La Virgen del Pilar, the city’s patron saint.

The occasion, according to Mayor Climaco will not only revere the city’s patron saint but “will endeavor to increase people’s awareness and interest in the rich history and cultural heritage of Zamboanga as well as its potentials for the promotion of the local tourism industry.”

Like in previous years, the Fiesta Hermosa Festival is expected to draw huge crowd of local devotees and to include local and foreign visitors as well.

The committee is co-chaired by City Tourism Sarita Hernandez and City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr.

The various committees include the ways and means, events management/ secretariat, security, physical arrangement, cleanliness/ sanitation, technical support, distribution of invitations/ letters, sports, marshall and parade management, program preparation (for the main program), media affairs/ documentation and technical requirement, and food and snacks among others.

The Fiesta Hermosa Festival is the grandest festival of the city every year. It I sa festival of songs, dances, presentations and other activities in honor of La Virgen del Pilar.

The mainstay in the fiesta activities are Cosechas de Zamboanga, Mascota, Regatta, Wow Sardinas, Dance Sport, Pesca Kita, Chabacano songfest, Wow Zamboanga (a cultural presentation), float parade and street dancing.

Highlight of the event is the religious procession and the Pontifical Mass on October 12 that is participated by thousands of people displaying fortitude and strong faith to the Lady of the Pillar. — Sheila Covarrubias
