Micro-finance firm employee, driver killed, robbed in Basilan PDF Print E-mail

A female field credit officer of a micro-finance company and her driver were shot dead by gunmen who robbed the money she had collected from clients in Lamitan City, Basilan before noon yesterday.
A police report identified the fatalities as Jennifer Timtim of KFI Center for Community Development ( KCCFI) and driver Saud Macalangcom.
Timtim and Macalangcom were on their home after collecting micro finance loan dues from clients when gunmen shot them along the highway at Sitio Baroy, Ubit, Lamitan City. Both died on the spot.
After killing Timtim and Macalangcom, the gunmen took her bag containing collection money.  
Yesterday’s fatal shooting was not the first time to happen to a micro finance credit officer. Similar incidents happened in Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga City in the last three years.
Emily Ocol, also of KFI was killed by gunmen in Sibugay on Nov. 11, 2011.
Pia Landingin of Mempco microfinance firm and Jorge Bernardo, a habal-habal driver of La Paz were killed by gunmen in La Paz, Zamboanga on Jan. 13, 2011.
Landingin was carrying some P50,000 which she took from their sub-office in La Paz to be brought to the Mempco office in Ayala aboard Bernardo’s habal-habal. when two men flagged them down and without much ado shot them at close range at Zone 8.
The gunmen grabbed Landingin’s bag containing the money and sped towards La Paz aboard another motorcycle.
Bernardo was rushed to the Zamboanga City Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival while Landingin expired as doctors were trying to save her from a gunshot wound in the head at the Ciudad Medical Zamboanga.
In the case of Timtim and Macalangcom, investigators were told by informants that an “urban terrorist group” in Basilan was behind the shooting. With report from Richard Falcatan.
