WMSU, PNP, AFP launch advocacy for security awareness PDF Print E-mail

The annual Western Mindanao State University intramurals—a week-long festivity of sports, culture and talent kicked off with a fun-filled opening ceremony on Sunday, September 1 with the theme “Strengthening the bonds of peace and unity through sports.”

WMSU, in partnership with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police-9 launched the Advocacy for Security Awareness and Peace (ASAP) with Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar as a special guest.

The University President, Dr. Milabel Enriquez-Ho, heartily welcomed all WMSU participants, enjoined the faculty and students to maintain peace and unity by “expressing themselves in sports.”

Youth advocates and representatives from the AFP and PNP joined hands as they released white balloons in a human-peace formation. Salazar participated in the releasing of the peace doves that symbolized the partnership between the youth, AFP and PNP through the ASAP. With the Mayor were Zamboanga Economic Zone and Freeport’s new Chairman, Christopher Lawrence S. Arnuco; Private Sector Representative to the Board of Regents, Myl Johann R. Amsid; the University president, Dr. Milabel Enriquez-Ho; Police Regional Director Juanito Bungay Vaño and Sr. Supt. Ramon A. Ochotorena, Deputy Regional Director for Operations.

Dr. Ho, along with the directors, members of the Administrative Personnel Association (APA), faculty, and students of different colleges of the University participated in the parade from Pettit Barracks to the Joaquin F. Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex.

A field demonstration was showcased after the ASAP launch, where hundreds of WMSU Physical Education students performed at the JFEMSC grounds.

Finally, the opening ceremony ended with a pyrotechnic exposition that marked the beginning of the week-long WMSU Palaro 2013. — AJ Dalugdug – PAO/WMSU
