Basilan Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Cristeto Rey Gonzalodo said during the Provincial Joint Security Coordinating Center meeting last Monday that policemen under his command are ready to serve as Board Election Tellers if in case teachers are afraid to do so on the day of the election on October 25.

Sr. Supt. Gonzalodo said that policemen serving in Comelec controlled areas are all professional and ready to serve anytime so that the people can exercise their right of suffrage.

Gonzalodo said he has received an information that in some remote areas in the province, teachers do not want to serve because of pressure, fear and because some of the candidates are their relatives who are pressuring them.

The meeting held at the Basilan Provincial Capitol was presided by Commission on Elections Provincial Officer Atty. Roberto Dela Peña and attended by 1st Marine Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Eugene Clemen, Sr. Supt. Gonzalodo, different police station commanders, Army officers, PNP Special Action Force, election officers and Department of Education officers.

Gonzalodo also said that Police Regional Office- Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Regional Director Chief Supt. Beinvenido Latag has sent additional 60 police troopers from the region to augment the police forces in the province.

Gonzalodo said he has also received information on some candidates engaging in vote buying.

Gonzalodo presided yesterday morning a command conference with his different municipal police station commanders in Menzi.

He directed his ground commanders to stay away from the politics and do their mission and task for the success of the election.
