President Benigno Simeon Aquino, III has signed into a law House Bill 425 authored by then District 2 Rep. Erbie A. Fabian increasing the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) to 500-bed capacity from 250.
Fabian said in an interview Friday that the law known as Republic Act 10613 was signed by President Aquino last August 28.
Then District 1 Representative and now Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar co-authored the Fabian-initiated law.
“I received a text message from Manila that House Bill 425, an act increasing the minimum bed capacity of ZCMC from 250 to 500 and amending Section 2 of Republic Act 7272 is now a law by virtue of R.A. 10613 signed by the President on August 28, 2013,” Fabian said.
He said he is grateful to all of those who supported him in the passage of the bill in Congress.
“I thank President Aquino for signing the bill into a law. I am very happy and also thanks to Mayor Salazar and all those who supported the bill,” Fabian said.
He said he is sure that the present (Zamboanga City) representatives in Congress will work hard to upgrade the facilities of ZCMC.
Fabian said the passage of the law would surely boost the services of the ZCMC as the hospital is not only serving the residents of this city but also those from other parts of the region.
