Mayor Beng Climaco and the Technical Working Group (TWG) will finalize today, the details for the holding of the Peace and Security Summit tomorrow, September 10 with Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas as guest of honor.

The peace summit, set at 1pm at the Centro Latino in Paseo del Mar will be attended by the political leaders, military and police officials including representatives from other law enforcement units and concerned agencies or groups from Zamboanga Peninsula-Basilan-Sulu-Tawi=tawi (ZAMPEN-BASULTA) areas.

Mayor Climaco, who is hosting the event said the activity seeks to thresh out a number of issues that affect peace and security in the Zampen-Basulta area that includes gun ban, smuggling, illegal drugs, kidnap for ransom groups, gun for hire groups and numerous others.

Climaco initiated the holding of the Peace Summit in a bid to come up with a coordinative and concerted effort among all agencies and political leaders in the Zampen-Basulta area with the ultimate goal of ensuring peace and security in this part of the country.

The summit is sanctioned by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa and Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin from whom Mayor Climaco sought technical support during a meeting of various agencies at the Western Mindanao Command headquarters last August 13.

Mayor Climaco is expected to convene the TWG today to finalize details for the event to ensure that everything is in place for the peace summit tomorrow.

After addressing the participants to the summit, Sec. Roxas will interface with the political leaders and other agency representatives and will later face the media and answer some questions related to the event.

The TWG is composed of representatives from the police, military, DILG, Navy, Bureau of Customs, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and other agencies concerned. — Sheila Covarrubias
