Soldiers retrieved the decomposing bodies of two slain hostages in the battle zone in Sta. Barbara and Sta.Catalina.

Relatives of the victims identified them as Ruben Limen y Ramos, 20, single an architecture student and Art Louie Goopio, 18, of Quezon, Bukidnon and a third year marine engineering student.

The bodies were recovered around 5:30 p.m. and were taken to the Villa Funeral Parlor for post mortem examination.

The two were killed in the first intense firefight between the MNLF and government troops on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, government troops became emotional after they recovered the bodies of a couple holding hands with their child in the interior portion of the battle ground on Wednesday night.

It was learned that the government troops were conducting clearing operation when they stumbled into the body of a boy partially burned and his parents who were totally burned near their small house that was razed in the series of fires in the conflict areas.

The heart breaking scene made the soldiers emotional as it indicates the couple held the hands of their child while they were dying after they were shot by MNLF rebels.

Authorities said that when the three died from bullets, rebels set their house on fire before fleeing.

Several other cadavers of slain MNLF fighters were recovered during the continuous militray clearing operations. — Dan Toribio Jr.
