The provincial government of Basilan under the administration of Gov. Jum Akbar is set to implement P50 million worth of agriculture-related projects in the province.

Akbar yesterday said the projects are aimed to boost the agriculture sector of the province especially rubber, which is among the province’ major crops.

Akbar said the projects are: rubber nursery, P30 million; 20 units of micro-processing plants for rubber, P10 million; and, farm-to-market road from Tipo-Tipo town proper to Barangay Magkawa, P10 million.
“Rubber is one of the major crops of Basilan. Putting up a nursery and processing plants will boost its production,”  Akbar said.

Akbar said she has requested the national government, through the Department of Agriculture (DA), for financial support for the realization of the three projects.

Akbar personally submitted her request Thursday night to DA Secretary Proceso Alcala, who met for more than two hours with the officials from Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi provinces in this city.

The agriculture-related projects are among the development undertakings of the provincial government “under my administration,” Akbar emphasized.
