Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar yesterday called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation to unmask the killers as she strongly condemned the ambush-slay of a barangay chairman and a supporter in Lamitan Basilan.

Jainuddin Dulla, the barangay chairman of Balas, Lamitan town and Jamrud Kuranding, Dulla’s supporter and driver, were killed in an ambush around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Kuranding died on the spot while Dulla expired while being transported to Zamboanga City for treatment.

Dulla and Kuranding were aboard a motorcycle when ambushed by gunmen.

Akbar asked the police headed by Senior Supt. Cristeto Rey Gonzalodo, Basilan police director, to look into all possible motives in the conduct of the investigation to unmask the killers of Dulla and Kuranding.

Akbar said the perpetrators must be unmasked and to be punished so that justice could be given to the victims’ families.

Akbar also called on the people who could have seen the attack to help the police by way of providing information that could lead to their arrest.

Akbar assured that the information will be treated with confidentiality for the protection of the informant or informants.

Akbar called on the electorate to vote intelligently come October 25 elections for barangay and Sangguniang Barangay (SK) officials.
