Three Zamboangueño construction workers were reportedly seized by gunmen believed to be members of the Abu Sayyaf Group in Simunul Island last Tuesday.

Abducted were Iti Partosa, Lindo Estrada and Ricardo Rapal, a construction foreman.

Report gathered by DZT disclosed that Partosa, Estrada and Rapal along with Sardan Palanas and Gilbert Luna were working at a construction site in Simunul when gunmen appeared and seized them at gunpoint.

The five were brought to the shore and were forced to board a pumpboat but because the seacraft was already overloaded, Palanas and Luna were released by the kidnappers. They managed to swim to shore.

Palanas and Luna proceeded to seek the assistance of  officials in Simunul.

Some of the five are from Sta. Catalina and their houses were gutted down by fire amid the MNLF siege.

Palanas and Luna were still in the custody of authorities in Simunul. — Dan Toribio Jr.
