Unidentified men attempted to blow up a bridge in Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay Thursday night.

Residents of Barangay Muyo, Buug were thrown into panic after an explosion under the bridge shook the neighborhood.

Men of the Buug Municipal Police Station led by Insp. Raul Clavecilla, Officer-In-charge, responded immediately and cordoned off the area to give way to men of the Scene of Crime Operation (SOCO), Zamboanga Sibugay’s Crime Laboratory Office and Explosive and Ordnance Division to conduct post blast investigation and to retrieve pieces of evidences.

Police Regional Information Officer Chief Insp. Ariel Huesca disclosed that based on investigation conducted by men of the Buug Municipal Police Station, it appears the explosive was set off by unidentified bombers under the bridge.

Report disclosed that before the explosion, Buug Poblacion and nearby barangays in that municipality had experienced power outage.

A sports utility vehicle (SUV) was seen passing the bridge bound for Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, minutes before the explosion was heard.

No one was injured, police said.

Men of the Buug Municipal Police Station were still trying to  determine the identities of the perpetrators.

The municipal enginee office said there was no structural damage caused by the explosion and the bridge is still passable for all types of vehicles. – Dan Toribio Jr.
