The presence of six armed men and a woman believed to be Moro National Liberation Front rebels triggered an evacuation Pungus, Camp Socorro, Barangay Bunguiao last Friday.

In an interview over Tatak RMN Zamboanga yesterday, Jenelyn Gregorio, a resident of Sitio Pungus, Camp Socorro, disclosed that around 10 a.m., she was washing clothes in a river when an unidentified armed man appeared and sought her assistance.

Gregorio said the man told her that they were six and two of them were wounded including a woman.

The gunman asked for Gregorio’s help in acquiring medicines particularly Mefenamic Acid and Amoxicillin for their wounded companions.

Gregorio said she went home and told her husband to buy medicines in nearby stores.

However, Gregorio’s husband bought other kinds of medicines which were not needed by the wounded persons.

Gregorio’s husband reported the incident to the barangay council of Bunguiao headed by Chairman Nestor Atilano which reported it to the police.

Moreover, Gregorio said the gunmen told them and other residents to vacate their houses because there were more of their armed companions who will be arriving.

At this point, residents immediately fled their homes and proceeded to a safer place.

Yesterday morning, Gregorio was fetched by barangay officials who brought her to the Sangali Police Station to shed light on the incident. – Dan Toribio Jr.
