Four security guards of a private agency will be rewarded by the Land Transportation Office-9 for their heroic act when they risked  their lives in  guarding  government property since Day 1 of the standoff between government forces and MNLF rebels.

LTO-9 Director Aminola P.  Abaton said the four security guards at the LTO-9 will be given commendation for their heroism and dedication to work. They will also receive incentives.

The four guards did not abandon their post at the LTO-9 compound during the 20-day armed confrontation between government forces and MNLF rebels. They did not leave their post even though MNLF rebels had penetrated the barangay hall across the LTO-9  building. They guarded the LTO-9 building day and night.

According to Abaton and some employees of LTO-9,  the four guards survived the crisis because were the two sacks of rice left in the building  by the Employees Cooperative. They cooked the rice and ate it without any viand— just salt and water. — Allen Abastillas
