Zamboanga City District Fire Marshal Supt. Dominador F. Zabala Jr disclosed yesterday that the cost of property damaged and burned during the 20-day standoff has reached P200,580,000.

The affected barangays are Sta. Catalina, Sta. Barbara, Rio Hondo, Kasanyangan, Zone IV, Mampang, Talon-Talon and Mariki. Residential structures burned total 9,709 and affected families are 20,095.

Zabala said that firefighting operations were successfully carried out by firefighters of the Central ,Tetuan and Sta. Maria stations.

He said that during the first week of standoff, firefighters were confronted with great challenges to fight the fire due to the presence of  MNLF snipers.

Zabala said there was no firefighting operation in Mariki because the footbridge was razed by the fire and no clearance was given by government forces because of the gunfight. — Allen Abastillas
