The Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) and the Southern City Colleges (SCC) were cleared by government troops Tuesday, October 1.

The establishments have already been formally turned over to their respective management, said Mayor Beng Climaco.

Operations in the ZCMC are expected to resume immediately, she added.

Climaco declared the development as “very significant” in the post-crisis recovery and in the process of returning normalcy back in Zamboanga City. Last Monday saw the opening of Zamboanga City Hall after nearly two weeks of closure.

Meanwhile, government troops continue to implement the Phase 2 of the clearing operations.

A total of 130 structures and establishments are currently being subjected to clearing operations, with priority given to vital installations and government offices, said PNP Spokesperson PCInsp. Ariel Huesca.

To date, the clearing operations have resulted in the recovery of 165 unexploded devices and 26 cadavers. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
