More than 100 families took shelter at the Tugbungan Elementary School due to flood brought about by continuous rain battering Zamboanga City since Saturday.

Barangay Chairman Agustin Graciano disclosed that the evacuees have been given temporary shelter at the Tugbungan Elementary School since Saturday. They are from different parts of Tugbungan like Waling-Waling Street, Fernandez Drive, Calle Basa, Tropical,  Chimang near the fishponds, Barigon, Picnic Ground, Dakak and Panitikan where the river dike collapsed due to strong water current.

Graciano said they fetched the evacuees using a mini dump truck, pickup cab and other vehicles from the citizenry of the barangay. The road going to Talon-Talon in Morning Breeze was also flooded because of flashflood from the river since Saturday. The water along the road was rising because of the collapsed river dike.

Kagawad Richie Puno, chairman of the Health and Sanitation Committe, said the evacuees, especially the children, need foodstuff and other relief goods. — Allen Abastillas
