Students in barangay Talon-Talon will soon have brand new classrooms, courtesy of Black-Eyed Peas singer Apl de Ap himself.

The singer and peace ambassador joined Mayor Beng Climaco, DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman, and other officials in the groundbreaking ceremonies marking the launch of his school building project in Talon-Talon yesterday, October 6.

Through the apl.de.ap Foundation, a two-storey school building will be constructed by the Habitat for Humanity to benefit the students of the Talon-Talon Elementary School.

“Pinili ko po ang Zamboanga dahil as a peace ambassador, I feel that opportunity brings prosperity, and prosperity brings peace,” he said, sharing his message of hope to an audience of eager students, teachers and parents during the launch.

Apl de Ap, Allan Pineda in real life, flew in to pitch in his contribution for the rehabilitation efforts in Zamboanga City.

“We need to keep the hope going,” said Pineda.

Mayor Beng Climaco thanked Pineda and his colleagues for their efforts and generous contribution.

“They flew all the way [to Zamboanga] despite the weather to show his love, his concern for the City of Zamboanga, not only for today, but for other future programs that their foundation will have for the benefit for our children,” said Climaco.

Also present during the launch ceremonies were District I Representative Celso Lobregat, Chief Operating Officer for Habitat for Humanity Philippines Leonilo Escalada, and OIC Schools Division Superintendent Pedro Melchor Natividad. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
