A fish vendor was killed while a 28-year-old man was wounded in two separate incidents in Taluksangay and Sta. Maria last Saturday and Sunday.

The fatality was identified as Basher Hasilun y Lungbus, 24, married, of Taluksangay. Wounded was Edwin Mato y Campongan, 28, single, of Riverside, Villa Sta. Maria.

A police report disclosed that Hasilun was standing along the road in Taluksangay around 6:25 p.m. when a gunman appeared and shot him without any word.
Police said that Hasilun was able to return fire triggering a shootout.
However, Hasilun was hit in the chest and fell on the ground.

The gunman escaped unhurt while Hasilun was rushed to the Zamboanga City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said that a mini cargo truck with plate number KFA 675 owned by Sherwin Jamhali was hit by a stray bullet while it was parked along the road.

Mato was shot and wounded by an unidentified store customer around 1 a.m. last Sunday.
A police report disclosed that Mato with five companions were sitting at a sari-sari store owned by a certain Tata when an unidentified man arrived and asked the latter if there was available cigarettes. However, Mato interferred and answered him in an arrogant way saying there was no more cigarettes for sale. Not contented, Mato directed a flash light on the man’s face, which infuriated the man and prompted him to pull a handgun and shot Mato hitting in the right foot.

The gunman escaped while Mato was taken to the hospital. — Dan Toribio Jr.
