The city’s Rabies Control and Eradication Coordinating Council (ZCRCECC) spearheads the observance of Rabies Awareness Month this March with various activities intended to massively disseminate ways on how to prevent and control the spread of rabies.

The nationwide observance kicks off today, March 1 with the theme “Working Together for a Rabies Free Zamboanga City, Register and Vaccinate your Dogs”.

The citywide observance will commence with a motorcade to be participated by local government offices and national agencies with Pettit Barracks as the jump off point. The motorcade will wind up at the Sta. Maria Central School where a short program will follow.

Mayor Celso Lobregat, who is the ZCRCECC chair will be the keynote speaker.
City Veterinarian Dr. Mario Arriola, ZCRCECC Executive Officer said the opening program will be highlighted by a dog exhibition featuring Tulisan Kennels and Wesmin Bullz and a film showing and anti-rabies vaccination.

Dr. Arriola stressed that awareness on the prevention and control of rabies is a very important factor in the vision to make Zamboanga rabies free. — Sheila Covarrubias
