Mayor Beng Climaco warmly greets the Muslim community in the city and around the world in celebration of Eid ul-Adha or Eid’l Adha, the feast of Sacrifice or the culmination of the Islamic World’s Hariraya Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Mayor Climaco will join the Muslim community in prayer rites today as a show of solidarity and unity with the Muslims in this part of the country.

“Although clearing operations (in the conflict area) is still ongoing, but we are more confident in terms of faith because of the celebration of Fiesta Pilar last October 12 and tomorrow (October 15) is the celebration of the Eid’l Adha”, the mayor declared. “It is very significant to Christians and Moslems in the city and I am very inspired with the support given to us by the Darul-Ifta and other Muslim community leaders who have bonded together to help us rise and rebuild Zamboanga City”.

She emphasized that the local government under her leadership is one with the Muslims in celebrating Eid’l Adha  as everyone aspires for peace and unity in the city.

Meanwhile, the Turkish community in Pitogo will continue with its traditional distribution of beef to indigents in the city in celebration of Eid’l Adha today. The distribution will be preceded by the slaughtering ritual where hundreds of cow will be slaughtered and the meat to be distributed to indigents.

The Turkish community in Pitogo manages the Filipino-Turkish Tolerance School (FTTS). The slaughtering of cows and distribution of beef meat has been a tradition of the school and is intended to show gratitude to Zamboangueños for their hospitality and friendship.

A huge portion of the beef will be turned over to evacuation centers for the victims of the conflict and the floods.
