he Philippine National Police gave honor to the Task Force Suyod with its gallant members during an awarding ceremony  last Tuesday at the Police Regional Office 9 in Camp Abendan, Barangay Mercedes.

The awarding ceremony  was presided by PRO-9 Director Chief Supt.  Juanito B. Vaño. The awardwas received by the   Task Force Suyod commander,  Director Carmelo E. Valmoria,  who is the Director of the PNP’s Special Action Force.

Task Force Suyod defended and protected the people of Zamboanga City during the three-week MNLF siege that started last Sept. 9.

Task Force Suyod joined AFP troops in fighting the MNLF rebels day and night in close quarter battles.

The task force combed each area in Sta. Barbara, Sta. Catalina, Kasanyangan, Rio hondo. Mariki and Talon-Talon  using speedboats with commandos and other war equipment in coordination with the Naval Forces Western  Mindanao that have naval  blockade in the area where rebels retreated and hid.

Many rebels were arrested, captured, surrendered and killed during the three-week armed confrontation.

Task Force  Suyod operations during the crisis were successful, and together with other government forces, they defeated the rebels. Some gallant officers and troopers of the Task Force sacrificed their lives.  — Allen Abastillas
