Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos yesterday turned over P100,000 in cash to the Tugbungan Elementary School as a form of assistance to bring more development in as afar as education in concerned.

Abalos along with TV celebrity Paolo Trinidad and several personalities from Mandaluyong arrived in the city yesterday morning and proceeded to the Tugbungan Elementary School where they met with the school staff led by Innocente Saavedra, school principal and Mrs. Grace Alvarez, grade school adviser.

Aside from the P100,000, Abalos also turned over a set of computer speaker to Alvarez and promisedthat he would see what other assistance he can give to the school like shoes for the indigent pupils.

Alvarez said she has an access to Trinidad who happened to be a friend of Abalos.

In Alvarez’ and Trinidad’s past conversation, the topic on the needs of Tugbungan Elementary School pupils cropped up like some gadgets that would help in their education.

“We did not expect that Mayor Abalos will donate cash for the school. All we thought that he will just visit our school and see what assistance he can give for the benefits of the students,” Alvarez said with elation.

The P100,000 was handed over to Saavedra by Abalos and was turned over to the school treasurer.

Saavedra said the money will be used to purchase more computers  and other equipment for the school.

After meeting with the Tugbungan Elementary School staff, Abalos and company paid a courtesy call on Mayor Beng Climaco-Salazar where he pledged to donate a four-classroom school building to  the Sta. Barbara Elementary School.

Abalos said he is willing to help Zamboanga City rise up  again after the MNLF attack.

Abalos said that through his Shara Marie Foundation, which is named after his deceased daughter, he is helping several schools in the construction of classroom buildings. – Dan Toribio Jr.
