The holding of the synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Zamboanga Peninsula  was generally peaceful last Monday, according to the Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9.

PRO-9 spokeperson Chief Insp. Ariel T. Huesca  said that Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Juanito B. Vaño has commended all police troopers for a job well done in securing all voting places in Zamboanga Peninsula.

Huesca said the electorate in the region successfully exercised their right of suffrage and voted their candidates of choice.

The Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines were deputized by  the Commission on Elections to  safeguard  the sanctity of the ballots by guarding  the perimeter of the precincts to  ensure that voters can cast their votes.

Huesca also reported the accomplishment of PRO9 during the election period from the different Police Provincial Offices  under command reference numbers 1310- 28056  as of October 27 to the present ,to wit:  On COMELEC gun ban, total arrested persons — 40; total firearms confiscated — 42; on violation of the liquor ban — three persons arrested.

Huesca there was no report of vote buying during the election period. — Allen Abastillas
