In a gesture of support and goodwill, the City of Iligan pitched in their contribution for the rehabilitation efforts in Zamboanga City.

Iligan City Mayor Celso Regencia turned over a check worth Php 500,000 to Mayor Beng Climaco Thursday, October 31.

Speaking in Bisaya, Regencio said the financial assistance was approved by the Sangguniang Panglungsod of Iligan and was taken from the remaining amount of their calamity fund.

“As neighboring cities, we saw that Zamboanga was hit by a man-made calamity, followed by flooding incidences. Since we are already recovering from typhoon Sendong, the Sangguniang Panglungsod of Iligan approved the Php 500,000.00 to be given as our help and assistance for Zamboanga City,” he said.

“I hope Zamboanga City can immediately recover, and that its people can rise again and move on,” he added.

Regencio also said that he hopes for the return of business investments and activities in the City, given that the local government is doing everything it can to bring back peace and order in the City.

After his courtesy call, Regencio proceeded to visit ground zero and the evacuation center in Grandstand.

Aside from Zamboanga, the City of Iligan will also be providing financial assistance to cities in Bohol and Cebu which were affected by the magnitude 7 earthquake this October. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
