Ramos leads Phl judo team to Hongkong int’l tournament PDF Print E-mail

Councilor Percival Ramos will spearhead the Philippine delegation to the Hongkong International Judo Tournament set to be held at Shek Kip Mei Park Sports Center in Kowloon, Hongkong from March 3-7.
Of the total 28-man delegation,  8 judo athletes and officials including Ramos are from Zamboanga  City. The others are John Baylon (national athlete and a 9 times SEAG gold winner, -81kgs), Alvin Mendoza (athlete -55kgs), Frederick Tormon (athlete-60 kgs), John Ramon Quin III (athlete -66kgs), Tracy Agramon (athlete -90kgs), Ricardo Dante Corteza (team manager/ education representative) and Prof. Alamjavier Indanan (Referee team representative).
The other athletes come from other parts of the country.

The tournament is organized by the Judo Association of  Hongkong China and is an annual competition attended by judo enthusiasts from the different parts of the world.

The Philippine Judo Federation is joining the tournament as part of its continuing effort to find fresh talents that will form part of the national team.
On Tuesday afternoon, the athletes together with Councilor Ramos paid a courtesy visit on Mayor Celso Lobregat in City Hall.

Mayor Lobregat wished the athletes the best of luck and provided financial assistance to help defray expenses of the athletes during their trip to Hongkong.

Other institutions and individuals who helped assist the Zamboanga group are the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), District II Cong. Erbie A. Fabian, Councilor Ramos and Mr. Ben Ramos.
Councilor Ramos for his part expressed hopes that the Philippine team will do good in the tournament as he cited the capabilities of the athletes.

Nevertheless, he said, whatever will be the outcome the judo athletes should be recognized for their efforts in representing the country in the international tournament. — Sheila Covarrubias
