A 20-year old man who had run amok in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Monday, stabbing everyone in  his path, was shot and wounded by the spokesman of Police Regional Police Office 9 and died in a hospital later.

SPO2 Barle Mohammad Mabol said Christopher Enguito died while undergoing treatment at the provincial hospital.

“He was hit in the leg and was immediately brought to the Sibugay Provincial Hospital but died few minutes later while undergoing medical treatment. I was informed, naubusan daw ng dugo (he ran out of blood),” said Mabol.

Chief Insp. Ariel Huesca, PRO9 spokesman, admitted shooting Enguita in the leg with an M16 rifle.

“Sa hita ko lang naman pinatamaan para lumpuhin kasi nag-scuffle na sila ng isa sa kasamahan kong pulis (I deliberately shot him in the leg to disable him because he was scuffling with one of the policemen with me),” Huesca said.

Huesca’s companion, PO1 Arnel Dagatan sustained minor bruises on his neck and managed to parry the knife blow of the suspect by using his shotgun, according to Mabol.

Mabol said Enguito had grabbed two kitchen knives from Savers Mart and, when accosted by the saleslady, ran out swinging wildly.

“Our responding policemen tried to convince the suspect to surrender but he refused. He would try to stab anybody who gets into his way and then ran towards the national highway. And that was the time he crossed path with Chief Insp. Huesca’s team,” Mabol said.

“Ang nangyari, sakay kami sa aming sasakyan at nasalubong namin ang mga taong nagtatakbuhan. Nakita namin itong lalaki na nagwawala at lahat na lang yata na maabot niya ay gustong saksakin, kaya bumaba kami at pinakiusapan bitawan ang hawak niyang kitchen knife (What happened was, we were in our vehicle and we saw people running. We saw this man running amok and swinging at everyone near him, so we got out and asked him to drop the kitchen knife he was holding),” Huesca said.

He said it was coincident his team was passing by.
