KUTA SANG-AN – Nine soldiers who displayed gallantry in action during the Zamboanga crisis were awarded with medals during a simple rite which coincided with the flag raising cCeremony held  at the Tabak (1st Infantry Division) Grandstand yesterday.

The Gold Cross Medal, the third highest medal for gallantry in combat were awarded to the following: 1Lt Robert Martin R Dimailig, Sergeant George L Neri, Corporal Sajack P Alam and Corporal Ramil R Castillon. The Bronze Cross Medals were also awarded to the following: TSgt Eduardo B Abog, SSgt Thuaheron L Pangulima, Sgt Kashir H Hussin and Sgt Manuel L Suarez Jr; while the Wounded Personnel Medal was given to Sgt Freddie C Centenales.

The pinning of medal was presided by Brig. Gen. Felicito Virgilio M Trinidad Jr, commander of 1st Infantry Division, Philippine Army.

“The heroism and gallantry displayed by these soldiers during the Zamboanga City siege have been seen and known far beyond the four corners of our Command. Their deeds speak the nature of a fine Tabak trooper- brave, professional and always ready to serve our countrymen. We should always carry these principles in all our undertakings, for our Command, for our family and for every Filipino people,” said Gen. Trinidad during the ceremony.
