PAGADIAN CITY— The city government in coordination with the police have apprehended and impounded 150 motorcycles, including tricycles with improvised mufflers which is a violation of Republic Act No. 4136 otherwise known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

The apprehension came after Mayor Romeo Pulmones ordered a campaign against the use of improvised mufflers following complaints from the residents against noisy motorcycles as well as tricycles.

Pulmones said the use of improvised mufflers is a violation of R.A. 4136 specifically Article IV, Section 34 which states that “Every motor vehicle propelled by an internal combustion engine shall be equipped with a muffler, and whenever said motor vehicle passes through a street of any city, municipality, or thickly populated district or barrio, the muffler shall not be cut out or disconnected. No motor vehicle shall be operated in such a manner as to cause it to emit or make any unnecessary or disagreeable odor, smoke or noise.”

Pulmones said the campaign will continue until all owners of motorcycles and operators of tricycles will get rid of the improvised mufflers and use the standard gadget.

Meanwhile, Insp. (ret.) Lauro Bernante, head of the traffic aide and Patrol 117, said they will also launch a campaign against unregistered motorcycles as well as penalize individuals driving without license.
