Mayor Beng Climaco has asked police authorities to probe deeply into yesterday’s slaying of a former town mayor in Tetuan, as she expressed sympathies with the family.

“We condole with the family of former Tungawan Mayor Arsenio Climaco”, she said after visiting the hospital where Climaco expired hours after he was shot along with his wife and grandchild aboard the family vehicle shortly before noon yesterday in Tetuan.

The town mayor’s wife Helen and grandchild, who was celebrating his birthday yesterday, are in critical condition.

“We seek justice for all injured and pray for the recovery of Shalimar (the grandchild). No child should bear such a heavy burden and lose more so on his birthday,” the lady mayor stressed.

She likewise called on the residents to help the police authorities in peace keeping efforts and to make Zamboanga City safe for all specially the children.

The Zamboanga mayor is not related with the slain town mayor.

Investigations show that the victims along with two other minors were on board an SUV van when they were waylaid by motorcycle-riding gunmen along the Tetuan highway.

Police operatives have yet to determine the motive behind the attack. -Sheila Covarrubias
