Pedro Rufo “Pocholo” N. Soliven, private sector representative of Zamboanga City in the Regional Development Council-9 (RDC-9), was unanimously elected chairman of the council’s Economic Development Committee during RDC-9’s its 4th quarter meeting  held at a local hotel last Friday.

Soliven’s election as chairman of that powerful committee was unprecedented, the first in 23 years that the Economic Development Committee will be chaired by a private sector representative. Public sector Co-Chair is DOST Regional Director Brenda Nazareth-Manzano.

The highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the Regional Development Framework of the Draft Regional Development Plan ,2014-2016.

RDC’s Economic Development committee is a very powerful committee, it was constituted to assist the body  in pursuing the socio-economic development of the region.

Its mandate, includes the power to review, endorse or reject programs and projects of national government agencies, the LGUs in the region requiring funding assistance from the national government and ODA communities, as well as integrate agri -industry sector plans and programs of Local government units into the regional agri industry activities of sectoral line agencies in the region.
