A Marine trooper was killed while two others were seriously wounded after still unidentified men lobbed a grenade at their truck in Jolo, Sulu, Sunday.

Capt. Ryan Lacuesta, 2nd Marine Brigade civil-military operations officer, said the slain and injured soldiers were all enlisted personnel of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-6.

He declined to identify the three as the latter’s families are still to be informed.

The incident took place around 10:20 a.m. while the Marines’ truck was traveling along Scott Road in Barangay Asturias.

The soldiers were heading back to their headquarters from a “marketing” trip, when a man standing along the road threw a grenade into their truck and quickly fled with a companion on a motorcycle.

“Initially we had three injured personnel and they were all brought to the hospital, but one of them passed away this afternoon,” Lacuesta stated.
