Filmmaker drowns, 15 rescued as boat capsizes in Dapitan City PDF Print E-mail

A physician-filmmaker drowned, while 15 others, mostly avid photographers from Zamboanga City, were rescued when the boat they were riding capsized amid big waves off Aliguay Island, Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte Wednesday morning.

Reports reaching Daily Zamboanga Times disclosed that photographers from a group called TREVORZ from this city accompanied by Dapitan City Tourism Officer Apple Marie Agulong and Region 9 Tourism Operation Officer named Estephanie Apolinario left Dapitan for a photo shoot in Aliguay Island. While returning to the mainland about a kilometer away from Barangay Aliguay, the motorized boat strong wind and big waves causing it to capsize.

Dr. Bob Aquino, a native of Pampanga and owner of Hypernova Productions, based in Zamboanga City drowned in the violent sea while his companions as well as the boat skipper identified as Anacleto Galleposo were plucked from the sea by a group from another motorized boat convoying.

The rescued passengers were brought back to Aliguay Island and were further transported to Taguilon port onboard the motorized boat of Dakak Park and Beach resort..

“May para kasing tarpaulin o ‘yung trapal, na dahil sa lakas ng hangin, parang nag-snap. Nang nag-snap parang nayanig ang bangka tapos biglang may wave na 2 meters to 3 meters [ang humampas],” said Dapitan City tourism officer Apple Marie Agolong, who also owns the ill-fated boat.
