Gov. Akbar opens agro industrial trade fair ’11 PDF Print E-mail

Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar yesterday led the opening of the Agro-Industrial Trade Fair 2011 showcasing the province’ resources on agriculture as well as other products that are only found and abundant in the province.

The trade fair, which is a joint undertaking of the Department of Trade and Industry-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DTI-ARMM), DTI Basilan Provincial Office and the provincial government, is part of this year’s celebration of the 37th anniversary of Basilan province.

This year’s celebration dubbed as “Pakaradjaan Basilan” is the grandest anniversary celebration initiated by the provincial government under the administration of Akbar in cooperation from the different local government units (LGUs) and other government agencies.

Among the products on display and for sale in the trade fair are high-value marine products like red grouper, crabs, and shells as well as coffee, black pepper, rubber and other exotic and tropical fruits.
Also on display are special hand-weaved clothing including vegetables and ornamental plants.
“Dito, maaari ninyong maipakita ang lahat ng mga produkto ng ating lalawigan,” Akbar said as she expressed her gratitude for the full support given her.

“Each city and municipality has product of their own na puede nila ipagmalaki,” Akbar added.
The trade fair is being participated by the province’ two cities—Isabela and Lamitan—and 11 towns namely Tuburan, Mohammad Ajul, Akbar, Ungkaya Pukan, Tipo-Tipo, Al-Barka, Sumisip, Tabuan Lasa, Lantawan, Hadji Muhtamad, and Maluso.

The participants also include the SCARBIDCI, LARBECO, UWARBMPC, Pasalubong Center Isabela City, CSFI Hinangan Bajau, DSWD-LLES beneficiary, DPWH, DOLE, DOH and DTI-ARMM.
Provincial Tourism Officer Hja. Hajija Carama said Pakaradjaan is a word common to all tribes in Basilan province which means merrymaking.

Wedding rituals of all tribes in Basilan province are also being showcased at the capitol compound while the trade fair goes on at the public plaza.
