The Barangay election for Zamboanga City on Monday is now in place with Board Election Officers and other  officers detailed in each precinct in all voting centers ready to serve,  Commission on Election  Regional  Director Wlifred Jay E. Balisado said yesterday.

Balisado said that the nationwide barangay elections set last October 28, 2013 was called off in Zamboanga City due to the September 9 MNLF attack that paralyzed all economic activities and operations of all local government and national offices,

The same political exercise was postponed in Bohol due to the devastating earthquake last October 15.

The election on Monday is a special election. The Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines are ready to secure all precincts in the city to ensure that the electorate can exercise their right of suffrage.

Balisado thanked the PNP and AFP for securing the barangay election in the Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte last October 28, 2013 which was very peaceful.

Balisado is optimistic that Monday’s election will also be peaceful  and orderly. — Allen Abastillas
