Narcotic agents arrested on Sunday two top illegal drug suspects in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Liangan, Picong, Lanao del Sur.

Felimon Ruiz, chief of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency–Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-ARMM), identified the suspects as Maminta Balindong Ali, a Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF)-Misuari-wing commander in Picong, and his cousin Alinor Sampulna Ali, a local militiaman.

Ruiz said Maminta Ali is currently listed as third in PDEA-ARMM’s regional priority targets.

The two were arrested after selling methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu to an undercover PDEA agent around 10:00 a.m. Sunday at their hideout in Liangan village.

When bodily searched, the suspects yielded 313 heat-sealed plastic sachets of shabu weighing 45 grams with an estimated street value of P300,000.

Also confiscated from the suspects’ hideout were five M-16 rifles, one M-60 machine gun, one AK-47 rifle, 33 machinegun clips and 218 assorted live ammunition.

“Our operatives have long been monitoring the activities of the suspects until they finally had the chance to get them,” Ruiz said.

He noted that colleagues from PDEA-Region 9 joined his men in the operation.

The suspects were slapped with violation of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002; and also RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

The duo admitted their being hooked to shabu use but denied owning the seized drug items and firearms.
