Newly-elected barangay officials will formally assume their posts at exactly 12:01 noontime today, November 30 following mass oath taking rites at the City Coliseum in Tetuan.

Mayor Beng Climaco will swear into office the 98 barangay chairmen and 686 barangay councilmen or kagawads were elected into office during the November 25 special barangay elections.

Of the total 98 barangay chairmen, 46 are newly-elected officials, 19 of which are from District 1 which has 37 barangays and 27 are from District 2 which has 61 barangays.

Prior to the mass oath taking will be an orientation/ briefing on issues and policies to be spearheaded by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). Registration will start at 9am.

Aside from Mayor Climaco, Congresspersons Celso Lobregat and Lilia Nuño will also address the new barangay officials.  Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde will give the welcome remarks while Councilor Abdurahman Nuño, incumbent president of the Liga ng mga Barangay in the city will close the program.

A highlight in the program will be the presentation of recognition awards to 3-termer barangay chairmen.
