The City Government kicks off today, December 2, Pascua na Zamboanga, the annual Christmas festivity with the theme “Build Back Better Un Familia Zamboangueño”.

Simple yet meaningful, this year’s Christmas festival will be ushered in with a mass for all City Government officials and employees at the Metropolitan Cathedral at 5pm today. It will be followed by the lantern parade dubbed “Parada de las Estrellas de Esperanza” from the Cathedral in La Purisima Street to the City Hall grounds where the opening program will be held.

The opening program will be highlighted by the inter-office Christmas presentation and will cap with the ceremonial switch-on of Christmas lights and Christmas tree at City Hall, Plaza Pershing lights, Plaza Vicente Alvarez, Paseo del Mar and Plaza del Pilar.

Mayor Beng Climaco said the City Government celebrates the advent season with simplicity and austerity in view of the crisis that happened in Zamboanga as well as the natural calamities that struck other parts of the country. “Let us practice the spirit of simplicity, we can forego with our lavish celebration but let us not forego the spirit of Christmas that Christ is born into our hearts”.
