WMSU cyclists rule 5th Tour de Fabian PDF Print E-mail

Some 130 bikers from all over Mindanao, including Cebu City, battled yesterday the 95-kilometer bike race, sponsored by District 2 Congressman Erbie Fabian.

The gruelling race had its starting point in Barangay Licomo, located at the boundary of Zamboanga City and Sibugay, and finish line at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex in Zamboanga City.
Tour de Fabian is now on its 5th year.

The bikers were grouped in eight different categories — Open, Junior, Senior, Golden Boys (50 above), Touring A, Touring B, Veterans, and Fat Boys (75 kg and up).
For four consecutive years bikers from the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) Bikers Association dominated the open and junior divisions.
Winners were awarded with medals and cash.

In an interview, Fabian said the tournament aims to develop camaraderie and sportsmanship among the participants.

Fabian expressed elation the bike tournament dubbed “Tour de Fabian” has attracted many bikers from Mindanao like Iligan, Dipolog, Bukidnon, Sibugay, Basilan and Cebu City.
Prizes such as medals and cash were awarded to different winners led by the congressman, who disclosed that next year’s competition will be for two days.

The first day bike participants will start from Licomo to the sports complex and the following day participants will start at the sports complex dashing their way towards barangay Labuan in the west coast then back to the grandstand. — NS
