Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant, Rear Admiral Rodolfo Isorena on Thursday commended his men based in Dapitan City for the safe rescue of 143 passengers of a distressed passenger ship in the waters of Zamboanga del Norte last Monday.

Reports said MV Georich, a passenger/cargo vessel owned by George and Peter Lines, encountered engine trouble some three nautical miles from the pier in Dapitan City late Monday afternoon which left the passengers stranded at sea.

The vessel came from Dapitan City en route to Cebu via Dumaguete.

Upon receipt of the information, the Coast Guard Station (CGS) Dapitan along with personnel of MV Tresha Krestin of Alison Shipping Lines, immediately responded and successfully rescued all the stranded passengers of the ship.

The passengers were disembarked at the Philippine Ports Authority terminal in Dapitan City at around 9:00 p.m. of the same day. No was hurt in the incident.
