MILF violates truce with government PDF Print E-mail

Elements of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) led by a certain Toni Datu Repors blatantly violated the truce with the government when they attacked the Marawi City Police Station killing one civilian and abducted PSupt Christopher W Panapan, Chief-of-Police of Marawi City, at past midnight last Friday.

According to Col. Glenn Macasero, commander of the 103rd Infantry Brigade under 1st Infantry Division based in Marawi City; the MILF under Repors utilized watercrafts to infiltrate and exfiltrate to and from the Marawi City PNP Station at Brgy West Marinaut, Marawi City to free their detained comrades namely: Johani Abuat Cader and Mesron Mauntol Borodan who were apprehended by the PNP-LDS sometime 30 October 2013 for illegal possession of firearms.

Col Macasero, immediately contacted and filed complaint with Mr Oshama Ali, head of the MILF Ad Hoc Joint Action Group (AHJAG) Team 2 based in Lanao del Sur for the said ceasefire violation. He likewise demanded the immediate the release of Supt Panapan.

Panapan was released hours after he was seized.

“We are already in contact with the religious leaders and Local Government Units who are possible negotiators to make sure the safe release of Supt Panapan,”  Col Macasero said.

In a separate incident, another group of MILF elements under Abdul Macalunto, abducted five civilians at Poblacion East, Balo-i, Lanao del Norte around 6 p.m. yesterday. The abducted civilians were believed to have been brought to their undisclosed camp in Lanao del Sur.

The elements of 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion immediately established checkpoints and conducted negotiations for the release of the civilians.
