A top official of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) was shot and wounded by one of two gunmen near her residence at Saavedra Subdivision along Atilano St., Tetuan last Friday night.

Wounded was Mari Victoria Cabanes Montano, 49, married, executive assistant of ADZU President Fr Karel San Juan S.J.

Police said Montano sustained a bullet wound in the arm and was taken to the Zamboanga Doctors Hospital for treatment.

Initial investigation disclosed that Montano was driving an Izusu Sportivo SUV with her son aboard on their way home when two men aboard a motorcycle appeared and opened fire on them around 6:30 p.m.

Police said the motorcycle backrider shot Montano several times with a 9mm pistol, but she was able to drive her vehicle away from the attackers.

Montano later found out she was wounded in the arm. The gunmen sped away after the incident.

Chief Insp. Elmer Acuña, Tetuan Police Station chief, disclosed that he and his men were still digging deeper on the case to determine the identities of the assailants and to arrest them. --  Dan Toribio Jr.
