Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar has lauded the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) provincial office headed by Marajaman Usman in keepings its tradition in the holding of the Qur’an reading competition in the province.

The competition held last Saturday is the 29th provincial level Qur’an reading completion held by the NCMF, bringing together the best Qur’an readers from the different cities and municipalities of Basilan province.

“The Qur’an reading competition is an occasion worth to be given much attention and importance. Because this will serve as a medium through which our readers and listeners refresh themselves with the words of Allahu Taala,” Akbar said.

Akbar said the Qur’an is the universal message of Allah to all mankind citing it tells people how to act correctly and “guides us to a correct social behavior in our daily living.”

Akbar said: “In Surah Al-Isra’ Verse 9, Almighty Allah Says: Verily this qur’an guides to what is most upright and give glad tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that for them is a great reward.”

“We do believe that if only all Muslims would adhere to the teaching of the Holy Qur’an, then every body will be living in peace and tranquility,” Akbar said.

“Thus, our task does not merely end in reading the Holy Qur’an but to understand the meaning of its message and to put it into practice,” she added.

She also lauded the national government for the creation of the NCMF, which abolishes the then office on Muslim Affairs (OMA).

“We believe the Commission will provide a wider opportunity to preserve and develop the culture, tradition, institutions, and well being of Muslim Filipinos,” she said.

“In consonance with this I want you to know that the provincial government of Basilan like the NCMF, is very much assertive in addressing the Socio-Cultural and economic concerns of the Muslim Basileños,” Akbar added.
