In its efforts to help rebuild the image of Zamboanga City after the disastrous Zamboanga siege last September, the Department of Tourism-9 is embarking on projects that will make the city  a tourism destination  in Western Mindanao.

DOT-9  will be conducting the “1st Regional Tourism Council Summit “ on Tuesday, December 10  from 8 :00 in the morning  to 5:00 in the afternoon at the Yakan Function Hall of Garden Orchid Hotel.

DOT-9 Director Mary June Bugante said the participants to the summit are tourism stakeholders of Region-9 and other interested parties. Guest of honor and speaker is  DOT Assistant Secretary Arturo Boncato Jr.

The first tourism summit is part of a series of activities of DOT-9 to promote tourism in the region.

Last November 21, DOT-9 conducted the “Getting to Know your Tourists” seminar attended by all frontline agencies of the government. The same seminars were held in Dipolog City, Pagadian City and Zamboanga Sibugay and attended by the different restaurant and hotel owners. Primarily, the participants were taught  on how to  welcome and guide tourists.

Last December 3, the office also launched “Regatta de Esperanza” at Paseo del Mar to help the Samal-Badjao earn a living by promoting the vinta sail boat and their fishing skill.

DOT-9 Information Officer Elle Carrasco said interested participants can register until  today, December 9, by contacting DOT-9 through their landline Telephone Numbers ( 062 ) 993-0030 and 955-2477 or mobile phone number 0917-710-5219 or through Email on dotr9@ or look for Ms. Elaine Fernandez. — Allen Abastillas
