Suspect in kidnap of bizwoman arrested PDF Print E-mail

Police arrested one of the six kidnappers who seized a businesswoman in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay the other day.

Arrested was Adznar Chiong y Najot alias Buda Ang/Mohammad, 25, married. He was nabbed during a hot pursuit operation at Sitio Timex, Barangay Bangkerohan, Ipil.

Chiong was positively identified by Ricky Baid Albon, driver and cousin of Cynthia Canonan Caboverde, 48. married, a fish broker and a resident of Barangay Bara, Dipolog City, who was seized by gunmen around 8:45 p.m. lastThursday.

The abductors also P 800,000 and cellular phones and fled towards Sitio Palid Beach, Barangay Poblacion. They put Caboverde aboard a motorized pumpboat.

Caboverde was with her husband Edrin Jamodin Agca alias Omar aboard a green Bonggo pick-up truck with license plate JFC 256 that arrived at the seaport where they paid the salary of the crew members of her fishing boat docked thereat. They were about to leave, when a man asked them if he can ride the truck. His request was granted by the couple.

The pickup truck proceeded to Barangay Poblacion, Ipil, and when they reached the junction of Sitio Palid, the man pulled-out a handgun, pointed it at the couple and ordered the driver to drive it to the beach, where five more men armed with handguns blocked their path and declared hold-up. They divested the couple of their wallets and cellular phones and brought her to a waiting pumpboat.

About 1 a.m. the following day,  police on a manhunt operation arrested Chiong at Sitio Timex, Barangay Bangkerohan, Ipil.

As of press time, men of the Provincial Public Safety Company and Ipil Municipal Police Station under Sibugay Police Provincial Director Supt. Robert Roy Bahian, in close coordination with soldiers in the area, continued the hunt for the abductors and their hostage. —  Dan Toribio Jr.
