Government troops clashed anew with suspected NPA rebels in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte the other day as the communist movement is set to celebrate the anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines.

A report reaching the Police Regional Office-9 in this city  disclosed that men of the Army’s 20th Special Forces were conducting combat patrol at the vicinity of Sitio Dipani, Barangay Bato, Sindangan when they encountered with five heavily armed men believed to be followers of Secom Feliciano “A” WMRPC around 9 a.m.

After few minutes of exchange of gunfire, the rebels withdrew towards the hinterland.

Troops recovered five clips of Garand rifle loaded with ammunition, assorted clothings, rice in sacks, corn and foodstuff.

Authorities suspected there were casualties on the rebel side while no one was wounded in the government side.

Meanwhile, a suspected NPA rebel sniped the detachment of the 6th Special Force in Barangay Bucana, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte around 1:30 p.m. of the same day.

Report said the soldiers manning the detachment were at their barracks when they heard four consecutive shots coming from the bushes about 1 kilometer away.

After the incident, three bullet holes were seen at the ceiling of the detachment but no casualty was reported on the government side. – Dan Toribio Jr.
