Zamboanga City will soon have a cancer center, the first ever in Region 9.
This, as House Deputy Speaker and District I Representative Beng Climaco has allocated P11 million as initial amount for the construction of the center right inside the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC).

The project will be undertaken in coordination with the Tzu Chi Foundation Inc. and the ZCMC.
Set to be known as the oncology department, the cancer center will deal with cancer diagnosis and treatment for patients suffering from the killer disease.

Even with the initial P11 million allocation in her 2010 Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), Cong. Climaco is continuously working to get other partners in completing the project specifically in equipping the center. The project is expected to be realized within the year.

On numerous occasions, Cong. Climaco has visited cancer patients, some of them young children, at the ZCMC. She decided to help finance the construction of a center that will solely attend to the needs of cancer patients.

A staunch advocate of women’s protection and welfare, the congresswoman also has breast cancer patients in her priority list as among the groups that will avail of the services of the proposed center.

Meanwhile, in observance of Women’s Month, Cong. Climaco has called on the women sector in Zamboanga to be aware and to exercise their rights  due them under the law.

“We march with all that we are as women and with men build better lives! Mabuhay  las mujeres, con todo fuerza impuja progreso y bien estar de todo”, the lady solon said in a message to women groups specifically those that participated in the Marcha de las  Mujeres organized by the Gender and Development Focal Point committee in coordination with the Local Council of Women said.

Because of the congressional hearings spearheaded by the House Justice Committee, in which she is a part of, the District I Representative failed to attend Marcha de las Mujeres but sent her warm greetings to the participants.

During her stint as councilor and vice mayor, Climaco was the head of the GAD Focal Point committee and initiated the conduct of the Marcha de las Mujeres in celebration of women’s month every March including the Pink October walk during the month of October in support of breast cancer patients.

“Continua marcha contodo el fuerza que Dios y La Virgen ay impuja”, the Congresswoman added. — Rham Joseph Cabasag
